Barbados is the Little England of the Caribbean. Historically, the Barbadian economy had been dependent on sugarcane cultivation and related activities, but production in recent years has diversified into manufacturing and tourism. Despite the British influence, West Indian culture is strong in family life, food and music. Barbados is a distorted pear-shaped island lying southeast of Miami and northeast of Caracas, Venezuela.
