Sri Lanka is an island located in the Indian Ocean and separated from India by the Palk Strait. The country has two geographical regions, a rolling plain which comprises 80% of the land area as well as the entire northern half of the island and continues around the coast to the southern half and the south central region which is hilly and mountainous with two plateaus, the Hatton and Kandy.
